Medellín to Host 2024 Pan American Archery Championship

The good relationship between the city of Medellín and sports is a secret to no one; For this reason, ‘The eternal spring’ will once again be the home of the 2024 Pan American Archery Championship, which will be held between April 7 and 14 at the Belén Andrés Escobar Saldarriaga Sports Unit.

This important sporting event will qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, so it will give the most outstanding 4 places for individual competitions and 2 more for teams.

Thus, initially, it was confirmed a few days ago by María Emma Gaviria, president of the Colombian Archery Federation. Who, in addition, at a press conference held this Wednesday, gave more details about the event.

In addition, there will also be a special qualifier for the World Games in Chengdu 2025, for which 6 places will be awarded, 3 in the men’s category and 3 in the women’s category.

For Jorge Enríquez, member of the Colombian Archery Team, recurve modality, the preparation they have had is very important.

“I have been in the sport for approximately 18 years. We have come with a very complete process with our teammates and coaching staff, which has helped improve our averages and scores. Colombia has been at a very strong level in America and we are working based on the latest results to improve individually and as a team,” explained the Colombian goalkeeper.

The competitions that will take place during those six days in the capital of Antioquia will be in recurve bow, compound bow and Berebow bow, with the participation of 450 archers from more than 27 countries.

Mayra Alejandra Sepúlveda, member of the Colombian Archery Team, also in recurve mode, sent a special invitation to all Antioquian followers of this sport.

“We are preparing very hard for this Pan American Games now in April that will give us places to Paris 2024, that is why I invite you all to come, accompany us and support us to be able to obtain those places,” said the Colombian goalkeeper.

During the opening of the event, an international Conference of Judges will take place on April 5 and 6.

Julián Andrés García, national recurve coach of the National Archery Federation, assured that everyone is working hard and constantly to obtain good results.

“We have a good preparation, we are working hard and hard so that the result of the National Team is unified, obtaining individual and team quotas, so that in this way we can be in the Olympics,” concluded the coach.

This Pan American in Medellín will give 3 points per match won, plus a bonus for average and points for place in the classification among the competitors, being the same as those applied in the general controls.

It is important to highlight that for the first time in the history of Colombian Archery, the country managed to achieve two places in the Para Olympic Games in the recurve modality, thanks to the work of Mónica Daza and Héctor Ramírez, athletes from Meta.
