Martina Navratilova Discusses Novak Djokovic’s Season Start and Potential Rustiness

Present in the stands of the immense central court of Indian Wells to witness Carlos Alcaraz’s victory against Daniil Medvedev this Sunday in the final of the Californian Masters 1000, Martina Navratilova remains a very attentive observer of the circuit.

Recently interviewed by Sky Sports on the average start to the season for Novak Djokovic, who has still not won a single title, the former world number 1 did not appear more worried than that for the Serbian while admitting a certain logic concerning his defeat against to the 123rd Luca Nardi.

“Sinner played a perfect match in Australia and that’s what it takes to beat someone as good as Novak Djokovic. And after that, Novak took six weeks off, and it’s great that he could take that much time off, but he was a little rusty. You’re certainly rested but you’re rusty, so you need matches to get back into the swing of things, and Novak came across a guy (Nardi) who was really hot that day. As we get older, bad days become more and more difficult to live with. I wouldn’t care if you had Novak’s mindset, and I’m sure he doesn’t care at all. »
