Martin Landaluce Shines in ‘Spanish Derby’ Victory at Miami Masters 1000

The promising Martin Landaluce won this Thursday the ‘Spanish derby’ against James Munar and achieved the first victory of his young career on the ATP circuit, in the main draw of the Miami Masters 1000, which he accessed with a wild card.

Landaluce, born in Madrid in 2006 and US Open junior champion in 2022 -year in which he reached world number 1 with six titles and 58 wins-, he triumphed 6-3, 1-6 and 7-5 in a two and a half hour match against Munar. He is, in fact, the first player born in 2006 to achieve a victory in a Masters 1000.

It was only Landaluce’s fourth game, which trains at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorcaon the ATP circuit, where he had lost against Tommy Paul in Gijón, against the French Richard Gasquet in Madrid and against the Japanese Taro Daniel en Umag.

The Madrid native number 360 in the world rankingmade the most of the invitation that this tournament granted him after the withdrawal of Rafa Nadaly will face each other in the second round with Ben Sheltonone of the emerging talents of American tennis.

It was a great day for Spain at the Miami Open, since in addition to Landaluce Roberto Carballés, Carlos Alcaraz’s next rival, and Roberto Bautista advanced.
