Marouane Fellaini Reflects on Nightmare First Season at Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini has hung up his boots. The former midfielder had a great career. But there were also lesser moments, such as the first season after his transfer to Manchester United.

Fellaini had a horror year under David Moyes, his coach who he previously had at Everton. They brought him to Old Trafford for 30 million and received a lot of criticism because he could be bought cheaper earlier in the transfer window.

“I’m honest and I’ve always said that the first year was very difficult for me, but also for the team. We had a bad season,” Fellaini said on Man U’s social media.

“It was a nightmare for a few months. It wasn’t easy at all and when you’re also in this situation it’s not good mentally, it’s not easy.”

“I played for Everton for five years, performed very well and got respect from everyone. Then you go to a big club and mentally it’s difficult because your football is not the same,” he explained.

“You know, for me it was the worst season]in my career, my first year in Manchester. After that first season it was much, much better. I would never criticize David Moyes for giving me my chance in England. I played almost every game under him.”
