Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, former president of Betis, dies at 79

MADRID, 24 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The man who was president of Real Betis Balompié between 1996 and 2006, Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, died during the early hours of this Saturday to Sunday at his home as a result of diverticulitis, as confirmed by the former Verdiblanco director’s own family.

After midnight, media such as Cadena SER in the nighttime segment of the program ‘Carrusel Deportivo’ and also COPE in ‘El Partidazo de COPE’ reported the death of Lopera, after confirming it with a nephew of the former Betic president.

Already on January 5, Lopera was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the HLA Santa Isabel Clinic, suffering from diverticulitis. Despite his subsequent recovery, two and a half months later Lopera finally died in his house on Jabugo Street in Seville.
