Maggy Émond-Brisson is a formidable badminton player. With the Laval University Rouge et Or this season, she ranked among the 8 best university athletes in the country by reaching the quarter-finals at the Canadian championship in Waterloo, Ontario.
There is something to smile about when the young woman from Escoumins recounts her journey during her fourth year with the Rouge et Or badminton team.
“It started off funny,” says the woman who now lives in the national capital.
The athlete sprained his ankle and had to take some rest while continuing his studies.
After completing a bachelor’s degree in sociology, she is now starting a master’s degree in criminology, which for her is “as enjoyable as playing badminton.”
From doubles to singles
Recovered, the athlete took the path of singles play somewhat by chance.
“Basically, I’m not a singles girl,” clarifies the athlete.
“At the beginning of the year, we discussed the interest of playing alone, because we were missing singles athletes,” she recalls.
When her doubles partner was injured, Maggy Émond-Brisson began to develop her solo game.
She participates in a few tournaments and is happy with her results.
We know the rest: the Escouminoise finished his 4th year with the Rouge et Or in style, being one of the best university athletes in the country.

Maggy Émond-Brisson approaches her studies in criminology in the same way as her sports training.
“I have equal pleasure in both places, in my studies and in the field,” she reveals.
His team, which includes other university-ranked athletes, makes the gym a motivating place.
“We are all at the same place in age and studies. We have roughly the same schedules and we motivate each other,” she says.
In tournaments, it’s fun above all.
“When I don’t have expectations, these are my best tournaments,” explains Escouminoise.
“I didn’t have so many expectations in singles, and in the end, it gave great results,” she rejoices.
