Lyon Cruises Past Lorient: Tagliafico and Baldé Secure Victory

Lyon is moving forward in style. Stopped in their comeback by Lens last weekend, Les Gones quietly disposed of Lorient (0-2) to provisionally take tenth place in Toulouse. Nicolas Tagliafico (0-1, 52nd) and Mama Baldé (0-2, 64th) are the Lyon scorers of the day. Lorient, far too harmless, slipped to fifteenth place, only one point ahead of the play-off place occupied by Le Havre.

Party spoiled for Moustoir

For the 100th anniversary of the Moustoir, the Merlus did not live up to the event. First at the start of the match where they were quickly overwhelmed then throughout the match where they never knew how to create danger in front of Anthony Lopes’ goal. If the score was equal at the break, Lorient owes it largely to Yvon Mvogo. The Swiss goalkeeper thus successively frustrated Corentin Tolisso (11th), Saïd Benrahma (11th), Nemanja Matic (12th), Clinton Mata (33rd) and Rayan Cherki (79th).

Faced with all his missed opportunities, Les Gones had no doubts. Confident of their strength, they resumed at the same pace upon returning from the locker room. On an action initiated by a cross from his right side Clinton Mata, left side Nicolas Tagliafico placed a diving header out of reach of Yvon Mvogo (0-1, 52nd). Finally in front, Lyon was able to calmly manage the rest of the match. It must be said that the Lorient opposition (nine shots, zero on target) was not enough to worry Anthony Lopes and his defense.

Is this year the good one? “If France places three clubs in the quarter, the season will already be successful”

More prominent after the break, Lorient striker Mohamed Bamba has not had the success he had in recent weeks (six goals in the last six matches). To make the celebration complete, Mama Baldé scored her first goal in Lyon colors after a solitary raid on the counter-attack after a beautiful deep pass from Maxence Caqueret (0-2, 64th). Thanks to this success, Lyon leaves its opponent of the day with six points and can once again look forward while Lorient looks back more than ever.
