Los Angeles Rams Sign Jimmy Garoppolo for 2024 Season as Matthew Stafford’s Backup

The Los Angeles Rams cared little that Jimmy Garoppolo had a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policies on performance-enhancing substances, and decided to hire him for the 2024 season.

According to reports from Mike Garafolo and Peter Schrager, the Rams gave him a one-year contract to be Matthew Stafford’s backup in The Angels. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Last year, Garoppolo signed a three-year, $72.75 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, but he only appeared in seven games, six starts, and won three of them. During his time at Allegiant Stadium he completed 65.1 percent of his throws for 1,205 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The best, and worst, stretch of Garoppolo’s career occurred between 2017 and 2022, when he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers. The quarterback was tormented by various injuries, but he managed to lead the NFC West team to Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs. During his time in San Francisco Bay he generated 13,599 yards with 82 touchdowns and 42 interceptions while completing 67.6 percent of his throws.

Now, the veteran quarterback will once again have the role he had when he began his NFL career. When he was drafted, he served as backup to Tom Brady, then only a three-time Super Bowl winner, in New England; now it will be, but from Matthew Stafford, who won the LVI edition of Super Bowl.
