From March 1 to 3, the 6th Latvian Open Youth and Junior Swimming Championship was held in the Ķīpsala swimming pool, where a record number of participants gathered – more than 580 young swimmers from Latvia, as well as 160 athletes from Azerbaijan, Finland and Estonia took part in the competition. The three-day competition program included 32 individual disciplines, as well as seven relay swims. Liepāja Complex Sports School was represented in the competition by 15 swimmers, the press representative of the sports school Simona Laiveniece informed the portal.

Liepāja Complex Sports School swimmer Laura Strautmane won 3rd place in the 50-meter breaststroke, Francis Grava fulfilled the norm of the 1st sports class, while Terēze Viktorija Sene fulfilled the norm of the master of sports candidate. The athlete’s trainer Ārija Strautiņa admits: “Tereze is willing to work and purposeful. That’s how an athlete should be. She also gives all her strength in training and goes for the goal. I wish all athletes were like that!”

Tina Korbane, the swimming coach of the Liepāja Complex Sports School, says: “I have always said that there are only three places on the podium, it is good to occupy them, but personal records are important. Francis Grava improved his personal record by 6(!) seconds. I also say thank you to the athlete to the first coach, Olga Dreiman. At the age of 14, Tereza has already achieved the status of candidate for master of sports, there is still only a class of master of sports and international master of sports to grow in. I am happy about the swimmers’ results, because many improved their personal results!”
