In Portugal, specifically in Anadia, the Junior European Cup. Around 350 athletes from 17 countries competed on the Anadia Sports Complex mat with the aim of achieving the gold medal and a place for the European Championship and the Junior World Judo Championships in 2024.
To this great dateseven judokas from the Las Nieves-Akari Club attended: Eric J. Morales (-60kg), Carlos D. Gutiérrez (-73kg), Alejandro Rojas (+100kg), Daniela Rivero (-52kg), Adriana Suárez (-63kg), Nira Rodríguez (-70kg) and Laura Volo ( -78kg).
It is worth highlighting the competition of Alejandro Rojas, in the +100kg category, in which he beats his first rival wazari (judo score) after performing a good technical execution standing.
In the semifinals he faced the representative of Kazakhstan Zhantilek Nurtilepuly. The first sequences both made attacks without danger, but the Kazakh took advantage of an action to win the fight on the ground by Shime-Waza (strangulation technique) and Rojas abandoned. In the bronze medal, Rojas Arencibia faces the Portuguese Henrique Sousa and wins by a technical standing action, achieving the Ippon (highest score in judo) and winning the bronze medal in this international event.
The Gran Canarian is, currently, champion of Spain as a cadet and even being in this category he achieved an international medal in the junior category.
On the other hand, the rest of the team could not access the medals in their respective categories although they left the flag high with their demonstrations and determination.
This international medal, added to the one achieved last week by Zuleima Falcón, consolidates this Las Nieves-Akari sports project led by Jorge Hernández, with its headquarters in the facilities of the Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves Teaching Center.
