Kostantin Koltsov, Aryna Sabalenka’s companion, allegedly committed suicide

Former Belarusian professional hockey player Konstantin Koltsov, companion of Aryna Sabalenka (world No. 2), died “probably by suicide,” police in Miami-Dade County (Florida) announced on Tuesday. The police were sent the night before to a hotel in Miami Beach because “a man had jumped from a balcony”, declared the police spokesperson affirming that “no criminal act is suspected” in this survey.

Aged 42, Koltsov played 144 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the mid-2000s. He also participated in two editions of the Olympic Games in 2002 in Salt Lake City and 2010 in Vancouver with Belarus.

According to information from the tournament website and Tennis Channel, Sabalenka (25 years old) decided to take part in the competition, without participating in the post-match press conference. Exempted from the first round, she would face the winner of the match between Simona Halep and Paula Badosa, which takes place this Tuesday evening.
