Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant was eight points behind Shaquille O’Neal on the NBA’s all-time list heading into Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Luckily, the fans in attendance didn’t have to tremble for too long.
Durant easily surpassed that mark, scoring 22 points on 10 of 18 attempts and leading his team to a 115-102 victory. He now has 28,610 points in history, passing Shaq (28,596) for 8th place on the list.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate him on overtaking me and now being eighth in the NBA’s top scorers list – he deserves that. But you know it doesn’t stop there. We’ll probably see each other soon – let’s see, if you can be No. 1,” O’Neal said on the set of TNT’s Inside the NBA.
“Congratulations bro, you did well. I knew I could do it, if anyone was going to overtake me, it would definitely be you.”
While it’s a tall order for Shaq, Durant has shown he still has a lot left in his tank. However, with LeBron James sitting at No. 1 on the all-time scoring list with 40,179 points, catching up with the future Hall-of-Famer will be a tall order.
Next on the list for Durant is Wilt Chamberlain, who is ranked No. 7 with 31,419 points.
