Kevin De Bruyne ruled out for FA Cup quarter-final due to injury: Guardiola

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola confirmed on Friday that Kevin De Bruyne will not play in the FA Cup quarter-final against Newcastle United on Saturday. De Bruyne is suffering from a minor groin injury and was also not in national coach Domenico Tedesco’s selection on Thursday for the friendlies against Ireland (March 23) and England (March 26).

“He is not ready for tomorrow,” Guardiola said at his press chat on Friday. “He already played with trouble at Anfield last week. He is doing better now, but he is not ready for tomorrow. We spoke to the Belgian national team coach, Domenico Tedesco, and he decided to give him a rest. I am grateful to him for that. Kevin wasn’t feeling well and now he can recover for the rest of the season. He played well at Anfield, but a day later he really didn’t feel well. It is better to take good care of you.”

The 32-year-old De Bruyne made his comeback at the beginning of January after a hamstring tear kept him sidelined for the entire first half of the season. He has played twelve games since his return.
