Justin Turner and Kevin Kiermaier Power Blue Jays to Preseason Victory Over Pirates

Justin Turner and Kevin Kiermaier hit first-inning home runs Thursday in a 3-2 victory for the Toronto Blue Jays over the Pittsburgh Pirates in a preseason game.

Turner set the tone with a two-run homer in the first inning, his second of the preseason schedule. Two batters later, Kiermaier hit his fourth homer of training camp to make it 3-0.

For the Pirates, Bryan Reynolds and Jared Triolo responded with solo home runs in the fourth and ninth innings respectively.

Young Blue Jays left-hander Ricky Tiedemann allowed one run in three innings and Paolo Espino then blanked the Pirates for five innings, limiting them to two hits and striking out eight batters.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider also indicated that right-hander Bowden Francis will start the season in the starting rotation.

In five appearances on the mound, including four starts, he was 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 18 2/3 innings since the start of the preseason schedule.
