Jurgen Klopp: VAR Should Make the Right Decision, Not Set Thresholds

“Isn’t he (the VAR, editor) there to simply make the right decision? And not to decide how high the threshold is to overrule and find the right decision?” asked Klopp after the final whistle on Sky Sports was telling.

The Reds’ German coach said: “Anywhere else on the pitch it’s 100 percent a foul and a yellow card.”

Doku did “hit the ball. But he could only hit it because his foot was so high. If the ball isn’t there, it kills him.”

Klopp then underlined: “For every footballer on the planet, this is a penalty.”

A penalty whistle would have given Liverpool the chance to win the summit shortly before the end. So it remained 1-1, with John Stones initially giving City the lead in the first half. Mac Allister equalized with a penalty shortly after the restart.
