JSV Speyer Women Ready to Begin New Season in Sindelfingen

Women from JSV Speyer start the new round in Sindelfingen

Speyer. The JSV women go into the 2024 Bundesliga season with a largely unchanged squad, but with some additions and reinforcements in some positions, which begins on Saturday with an away game at VfL Sindelfingen.

In terms of personnel, the JSV remains true to its line of integrating its own young talent into the Bundesliga team with three new additions from its own ranks. Lina Hartmann (-52 kg) as well as Caroline Dietrich and Alesia Büttner (each -57 kg) should follow in the footsteps of Jill Trenz, Jana Förtsch, Özlem Gülmez and Corinna Bayer and establish themselves in the Bundesliga. “We definitely plan to give them appearances this season,” announces team boss Nadine Lautenschläger. Especially in the preliminary round, not all of the top fighters will be used – so Seija and Mascha Ballhaus will most likely not be available until the play-offs at the earliest. This gives the young fighters the opportunity to not only gain experience but also a sense of achievement and points.

Other newcomers in the weight class up to 70 kilograms are 18-year-old Luna Abboud Herbert from Heidelberg, who was third in the German U21 up to 63 kilogram championship last year, and Marley Garland up to 63 kilogram, last year’s German U18 up to 57 champion Kilogram. Both were there at the final round last year and were able to get to know the team.

Also no stranger to the Speyer team is Katharina Keltjens from Bürstadt, who is in her last U18 year, trains regularly in Speyer and has now joined the Bundesliga team. Another new addition is the 24-year-old Spaniard Mireia Lapuerta (-48kg), who has already competed in important international tournaments several times.

The Speyer fans can also look forward to the young Ukrainian Yelyzaveta Lytvynenko, who provided a lot of highlights and points for the JSV as a newcomer last year and will remain loyal to the team this year too.

As far as the season format is concerned, it is the same as last year, with the difference that the JSV no longer competes in the North-West group, but where one would intuitively expect it, namely in the South-West relay with Wiesbaden, Karlsruhe and the opening opponent Sindelfingen, who took last place in the table in this group last season, but should still not be underestimated. “They have a lot of good fighters on their list, including some foreign fighters. So we’ll have to see how they’re set up. “It’s also a double match day with the Sindelfingen men – there will definitely be a good atmosphere in the hall,” says Nadine Lautenschläger, who has to keep her fingers crossed for her team from afar this time as she and Alesia Büttner are at the U18 European Cup in Porec, Croatia is. The team in Sindelfingen is therefore looked after by Szaundra Diedrich, the other half of the equal team manager tandem. In terms of personnel, things are looking relatively good; despite some absences due to illness and some difficulties in filling the higher weight classes, the team leaders have found good solutions. Some of the new additions are expected to make their debut, some of the JSV’s foreign top performers are also available and homegrown players such as Jana Förtsch, Özlem Gülmez and Jill Trenz, who have now become important pillars of the Bundesliga team, are also ready for the start of the season.
