Joey Votto makes dramatic debut with Toronto Blue Jays against Phillies

Joey Votto made his debut with the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday in the game against the Philadelphia Phillies, and let’s just say he went through all the ranges of emotions.

The one who joined the team of the Queen City at the beginning of March hit hard from the start by extending his arm to give his team a 1-0 lead in his first appearance. That said, his workday was quickly over as he twisted his ankle in the dugout. He subsequently did not return to the game.

Still, he doesn’t expect to miss too much action.

“I accidentally stepped on a bat in the dugout, rolled my ankle and it hurt like hell,” he said in comments relayed by journalist Keegan Matheson.

“So I walked out of the game, but not intentionally. I had to play five innings and get three at-bats,” continued the 40-year-old athlete.

The Phillies and the Blue Jays parted in a 5-5 draw. Ernie Clement was the other author of a home run for the Toronto club.

Kiermaier in form against Julien’s Twins

In the Blue Jays’ other game on Sunday, Kevin Kiermaier was particularly skillful. He is one of the big reasons explaining his team’s 9-4 victory against the Minnesota Twins. The outfielder threw two bombs during the match, producing two runs.

George Springer was not left out, he also hit a home run for three RBIs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., meanwhile, added a single in the first inning. He also sent the ball to safety twice.

Quebecer Édouard Julien made two at-bat appearances, drawing a walk and stepping on home plate once. Since the start of the preparatory calendar, the Quebec native has maintained a plate average of .345.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles. The Twins will face the Boston Red Sox on Monday.
