IX Dominican Republic International Swim Open & National Championship 2024 Set to Make a Splash in Santo Domingo

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Swimming Federation (Fedona) announced that it will hold the IX Dominican Republic International Swim Open & National Championship 2024 from April 5 to 7 of this year, to be held at the Aquatic Center of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

The announcement was made this Tuesday by the members of the Fedona executive committee, chaired by Radhamés Tavárez, along with the general secretary, Margarita Jáquez.

Tavárez revealed that the international event is a qualifier for the Paris Olympic Games, this year’s World Cup in Hungary and the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay.

The president of Fedona announced that athletes from the nations of Costa Rica, Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, the United States and the host Dominican Republic will be participating in the country.

He said that Fedona expects the participation of almost 500 athletes from the different clubs of those countries. From the Dominican Republic, swimmers from the associations of Santo Domingo, La Vega, Santiago and the National District will participate.

Tavárez maintained that the success of the international tournament has been of such importance since its inception that medalist athletes have wanted to be present, since it provides tickets for other events. So much so that there will be medalists from the Central American and Caribbean Games, such as Elizabeth Jiménez, Andrés Martijena, both Dominicans; María Mata, from Mexico; the Colombians Karen Durango and Stafania Gómez. Also the Cubans Laurent Estrada and Lorena González, among other national and international athletes.

It is worth mentioning that María Mata Coco is also a Pan American Games medalist.

The event is sponsored by Miderec, Dominican Olympic Committee, Creso, Inefi, Arroz Campo, Asociación Cibao and VitaSAlud.
