Italy’s Jessica Rossi Secures Fifth Olympic Shooting Card for Paris 2024

At the European Games in Krakow, the Italia Team can celebrate its fifth Olympic shooting card for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Jessica Rossi won the gold medal in trap, ensuring the blues the second and last available national place after the one obtained by Silvana Stanco with her success at the European Championships in Larnaca (Cyprus) last August.

At the Wroclaw Shooting Center the London 2012 Olympic champion made her voice heard right from the qualifiers, which ended with the first score (123/125).

The Italian was also the best in her ranking match, in which she earned access to the final four thanks to a score of 22/25.

Rossi, despite the high stakes and the pouring rain, did not waver in the gold medal match. Here he made the most of his greater experience compared to his opponents by taking first place thanks to a score of 28/35. Silver for the Finnish Satu Silja Paivikki Makela-Nummela (26/35) while the bronze was secured by the Slovakian Jana Spotakova (17/25).

For Italy this is the second Olympic card for clay shooting in the Polish event after the one obtained by Martina Bartolomei in skeet.

This race reminded me of the London Olympics, the same sensations. There are, I’m still the same Jessica Rossi from 2012”. This is the joy of the London Olympic champion after the gold medal in trap at the European Games. “Yesterday was a perfect day, I didn’t do anything wrong – declared Jessica Rossi – But then I had food poisoning, vomiting and fever all night, at 3.30 I thought I was struggling to stand up. It was really very difficult, I slept little, my stomach still wasn’t feeling great but everything went as it should. I arrived prepared and calm in Krakow and managed to bring home the Olympic card. And then a gold came in the only race that was missing from my palmares.”

“Paris 2024? After the disappointment in Tokyo I decided to continue and I set myself this goal – continued the blue shooter – It wasn’t easy at all, the level increased a lot and then for the Olympics in Japan I had worked hard but it wasn’t even enough to get into the final. I moved forward giving it my all, I had ups and downs, difficult moments but I worked a lot from a technical point of view.

We have made important changes, which are not easy to accept – explained Jessica Rossi – I am proud of the work done together with the coach, now we continue the journey towards Paris with greater serenity. I have never changed: in every athlete’s story there are ups and downs. In some moments it wasn’t easy to accept the difficult moments but I knew well where I had to go. I tried to maintain concentration without ever relaxing. Reaching 31, after all the victories, and accepting the changes was not easy: I faced everything with great humility, I have never changed. And now I collect the results”. (agc)
