Italy’s Archery Teams Aim for Olympic Qualification: A Look at the Rankings and Remaining Opportunities

After a few months of pause, in which there was only space for some indoor competitions over the distance of 18 metres, the outdoor season of archery which will culminate this summer with i Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In the next few weeks the final sprint will take place to obtain the last available passes in view of the five-round event, in which Italy will try to play a leading role.

So let’s summarize the situation of the Bel Paese in the Olympic qualifiers, when there are only a few events left on the calendar before Paris. The Italian movement has already obtained an individual (non-nominal) pass for women thanks to Chiara Rebagliati on the occasion of the European Games, while he is still dry as far as team trials are concerned. Qualifying the trios would also be essential to be able to field 3 athletes in the individual competitions, as well as competing for medals in the various Team Events (gender and mixed).

So let’s focus on the hunt for the teams’ Olympic tickets, with 5 countries already qualified for the men’s team: France (as host), South Korea, Turkey, Japan and Kazakhstan. The next two quotas will be distributed in the Pan-American and European Pre-Olympics, while the Antalya Global Pre-Olympic will award three. Two countries will then be selected based on the world ranking of 24 June 2024.

In the women’s field, the selections already certain of the pass are only 4: France, Germany, Mexico and South Korea. Same rules as for men for the continental Pre-Olympics (1 place available for Europe and 1 for the Americas), while on the occasion of the World Pre-Olympic in June in Turkey they will be admitted to the Games well four countries. To reach the established number of 12 trios, here too two national teams will be selected via ranking on 24 June.

The World Ranking therefore represents a vital parachute for all the trios still seeking qualification for the Five Circlesin the unfortunate event that the last opportunities to win direct tickets on the field should disappear. Quite a favorable situation in this sense for our local men’s trainingvirtually fourth in this special ranking behind Asian selections who have what it takes to gain the pass in Antalya. The situation of the blue ones is a little more complicated, sixth and fighting with several other teams at least for 5th place while waiting to understand who will emerge from this ranking and win the tickets to France.
