Italian Para-Archery Team Shines in Dubai With Four Gold Medals

After having obtained two more cards for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games yesterday, bringing the tally to nine passes in total, the Para-Archery national team concludes the trip to Dubai as a great protagonist. On the last day of the Fazza World Ranking Tournament the Azzurri took home four gold medals by winning the mixed team finals of the open Olympic arch (Mijno-Travisani) and W1 (Pellizzari-Tonon) 6-2 respectively over Japan and 147 -139 over the Czech Republic. In the individual first place in the recurve for Elisabetta Mijno, 6-0 over the Indian Pooja, and for Stefano Travisani, 6-4 over the French Toucoullet. Both Asia Pellizzari and Maurizio Panella finished in 4th individual place in W1.

THE RESULTS OF THE MIXED TEAM FINALS – The first to take to the field on the day of the finals in Dubai are the mixed teams and in the Olympic arch Elisabetta Mijno and Stefano Travisani put the gold medal around their necks with a clear 6-2 over Japan (Shigesada, Ueyama). The Azzurri start off strong and immediately take a 4-0 lead (33-31, 34-32), in the third set the Japanese try to stay in the match by shortening the gap (36-35), but it doesn’t help much because the fourth is still Italian with 35-34 which definitively closes the final.
It’s also gold for the W1 couple formed by Asia Pellizzari and Paolo Tonon. Italy beats the Czech Republic without sweating too much with the result of 147-139, a success born and raised in the first three partials all won by the Azzurri (35-32, 39-37 and 38-34), while the last goes to Davidek-Brandlova 36-35.

THE RESULTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL FINALS – Elisabetta Mjino also wins the individual gold by clearly prevailing over the Indian Pooja 6-0. The Italian thus closed her match without giving up a single set after finishing the qualification in first place, a total domination also confirmed in the final with the victory of all the partials: 27-23, 26-24 and 28-16.
It is longer and more competitive, but offers the same outcome, the final for the gold for the men’s Olympic arch with Stefano Travisani beating the Frenchman Toucoullet 6-4. The match was balanced for the first two sets (26-26, 27-27), then Travisani accelerated with 28-27 which took him into the lead. The transalpine, however, does not give in to the pressure and brings everything back to parity in the following round of arrows (27-26). Thus we go to the fifth set where the Italian archer is perfect and with three “10s” he takes the gold by taking advantage of his opponent’s 29.
In W1, the two Italians who managed to qualify for the bronze finals remain at the foot of the podium. Asia Pellizzari loses 134-132 against the Czech Republic archer Pultar Musilova. The Italian starts well (27-26), then after the second set (29-25) she finds herself down by four points and is unable to recover them despite the 27-26 of the third half and the 28-27 of the fifth, in between in fact, the opponent’s score is 27-26 which closes the score. There was also nothing to do for Maurizio Panella, beaten by the Finn Antonio 135-120 with the Northern European athlete doing well to win all the partials 28-22, 29-25, 27-26, 25-23 and 26-24.
