Italian Judokas Struggle in Second Day of Grand Slam Tbilisi 2024

There is no good news coming to Italy on the second day of Grand Slam in Tbilisi 2024, scheduled until Sunday 24 March and valid as the sixth seasonal event of the Judo World Tour. Today the four Italians competing on the Georgian tatami failed to reach the quarter-finals, therefore also missing the possibility of repechage and remaining far from the podium area. Overall a decent day in Tbilisi Irene Pedrotti, who won two matches (sum of Golden Score sanctions with the North Korean Mun Song Hui and waza-ari with the Lithuanian Ugne Pileckaite) in the 70 kg before leaving the scene in the round of 16 with some regrets against the German Giovanna Scoccimarro. In the same weight category, an unlucky one Martina Esposito she made her return from a long break due to injury, losing on her debut against the strong Dutch n.1 seed Sanne Van Dijke by ippon (joint lever).

In 63 kg the very young Savita Russo she collected an encouraging victory over the difficult Mexican Prisca Awiti Alcaraz (virtually qualified for Paris) by ippon at the Golden Score, then giving way to the Cuban Maylin Del Toro Carvajal due to penalties in the round of 16. Out in the first round instead Flavia Favorini Per hansoku make con la cinese Jing Tang.
