Serie A baseball will start at the end of April, but as per tradition, in the month of March we have a chat with Daniele Frignanionce again manager of Fortitudo baseball in 2024, after yet another Scudetto won in 2023.

Pressed on the fact that the roster is not yet complete and appears to be less performing than that of San Marino and Parma, Frignani admitted that Fortitudo started a little late, but highlights how we wanted to study yet another reform of the championship in depth, especially due to the limitation of cards for foreigners, and therefore initially the company focused on the confirmation and definition of Italians. He then highlighted that anyway the arrival of Junior Martina it is a quality graft that will certainly give added value. However, Frignani reassures that, as always, Fortitudo will be competitive and that the roster will be completed at the appropriate time.
However, the objective for the Effe manager is always to try to do the best, obviously therefore trying to get as close as possible to the title. But he warns against thinking only of Parma and San Marino, because in his opinion Macerata and the two Grosseto teams can also be protagonists. And then, as he says: «the beauty of sport is that the field remains the place where you win or lose»and therefore we will have to wait for the response from the field.
And so, returning to the camp, we asked how the group is approaching the season that is about to begin. The answer, obvious given the professionalism of the Fortitudo guys, was that the whole team group is training well, just as coaches want and expect. The only one a little further back is Agretti, returning from shoulder surgery who, however, is expected to be ready in the first few days of the championship
There was then talk of the new formula between the initial “elite” group, with all the favorites put together, and the now usual seven innings.
Frignani highlights how the seven innings are different from the nine, both due to the difficulty of making a difference with the reliefs, and because sometimes a big inning can irreparably mark the game. In the past season, he further underlines, Fortitudo was good at exploiting this, but everyone has now structured themselves in that direction. As regards the group with all the favourites, Frignani agrees with the fact that it will probably make the championship more training, but he wonders if it is not time to establish a formula that will not be changed the following seasonbecause these continuous changes, net of the fact that perhaps the one from 2024 will be the best possible, risks preventing companies from making long-term plans.
Finally, a mention of European Champions League, which was supposed to kick off this year. The idea was that of a football-style Champions League, with two groups of four teams playing in midweek. Problem: this implies professionalism and an expense that almost all clubs cannot sustain.
