NBA: What is the 65 game rule?

NBA players must play in at least 65 games (at least 20 minutes each) to be eligible for awards. This applies to MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, All-NBA and All-Defense. This excludes Rookie of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year and All-Rookie.

There are also minor exceptions, for example if someone suffers an injury after at least 62 games, which means the end of the season. Players are allowed to play at least two games between 15 and 20 minutes in order to continue to be available for the important awards. Missing games for personal reasons (e.g. the death of a family member) is also an exception.

As the rule applies to defensive awards, some potential All-Defense and DPOY candidates will no longer be eligible for consideration. Here are a few more candidates who no longer have a chance or are on the brink.
