Inside Look: The Making of the New Škoda Kodiaq – Part 2: The Paint Shop

Watch the continuation of the new series “Minutes from the factory”, in which Škoda gives us a glimpse of the production line of the new Kodiaq. It is currently being painted.

The new Škoda Kodiaq will soon hit Czech roads. In January, serial production of this model was started at the factory in Kvasiny, after the automaker invested 49 million euros in modernization and preparations for the assembly of the new second generation of its largest SUV. Together with the start of the production of the new product, Škodovka also launched a new series “Minutes from production”, in which we get an insight into the assembly process of this model.

And now the automaker is publishing a sequel. In the first part, she showed us how, with the help of state-of-the-art industrial robots, she welds bodywork with high structural strength and dimensional accuracy, which is automatically verified by measuring stations on the production line. In the latest video, we move to the paint shop, where the finished body with anti-corrosion protection goes through several stages of painting.

The first step is the application of the base varnish, the so-called filler, after which drying and inspection is followed by a layer of colored varnish. It is at this moment that the latest video shows us, where the Kodiaq receives the color BronxGoldMetallic, which the automated paint shop applies to the dark filler.

After all layers of paint have dried, the final phase occurs, during which Kodiaqs receive a final colorless layer of paint that ensures shine and protects the body from minor scratches. It is only with the final drying that the paint finally gets the necessary hardness and the car continues to the production line for further assembly. However, we still have to wait for the new installments of the series to show the next step.
