Injuries Plague the San Francisco 49ers and Other NFL Teams in Sunday Matchups

The San Francisco 49ers suffered two heavy losses in their Sunday duel against the Cleveland Browns.

First, Deebo Samuel injured his shoulder during the first half of the match. Then, all-star running back Christian McCaffrey left the game with an oblique injury.

Before his departure, McCaffrey was able to score a touchdown in his 15th straight game. He had 11 carries for 43 yards, in addition to three receptions for nine yards during the game.

Elijah Mitchell took McCaffrey’s place in the lineup.

One of the most dynamic offensive players in the NFL, the versatile Samuel was injured during the first quarter. The 27-year-old spent several minutes in the medical tent on the sidelines before returning to the locker room.

The 49ers did not say which shoulder Samuel injured.

Before his departure, Samuel, who was involved in a skirmish between the two teams before the game, carried the ball twice for gains of 11 yards.

Left tackle Trent Williams briefly left the field with a right ankle injury, but later returned to the game.

Heavy loss for the Bears

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields left the game against the Minnesota Vikings with a right hand injury.

He was tackled on a third-down play in the third quarter and refused a teammate’s offer to help him up with his right hand.

He briefly went to the sideline medical tent before returning to the locker room. The severity of Fields’ injury was not immediately clear.

Substitute Tyson Bagent took the field on Chicago’s next possession. Bagent was never drafted and had never played in the NFL before.

Minnesota led 12-6 at the time of Fields’ injury.

Montgomery forced to leave

Already without Jahmyr Gibbs, who missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, the Detroit Lions lost the services of David Montgomery on Sunday.

Montgomery retired to the locker room with a rib injury suffered in the first half. The Lions later confirmed that he would not return to the game.

After catching a short pass from Jared Goff, Montgomery was injured on the play at 7:34 of the second quarter.

He remained on the ground for a moment, before leaving on his own. Montgomery had 14 yards on six carries before leaving.

Montgomery also suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2, which forced him to miss the game against the Atlanta Falcons the following week.
