Injuries have taken their toll on the former Cowboys linebacker.

At only 28 years old, Leighton Vander Esch has finally decided to end his NFL career. According to ESPN, he will retire.

Injured in the neck and recently cut by the Cowboys due to poor medical tests, he is not going to find himself on the open market.

Selected in the first round of the 2018 draft by Dallas, the linebacker was selected to the Pro Bowl and second team All-Pro for his rookie season. But recurring problems limited him to just five games last year.

In six seasons in the league, he recorded 516 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 15 passes defended, 3 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 2 recovered fumbles.
