Ice hockey: Furious comeback brings “Bullen” forward

Red Bull Salzburg won the third semi-final duel against HCB Südtirol 4:3 in the Win2Day ICE Hockey League on Sunday and is ahead for the first time in the “best of seven” series with 2:1. The defending champions were down 3-0 after the first third, but won after a furious comeback with four goals in seven minutes. After a 3-1 win against HC Pustertal, the KAC made it 3-0 in the series and has a match puck on Tuesday.

Salzburg avoided their second home defeat in the duel between last year’s two finalists thanks to an outstanding middle third. The “Füchse” from Bolzano led 3-0 after a strong and efficient section from Pascal Brunner (3rd), Joshua Teves (9th) and Brad McClure (14th).

In the middle third the “Bulls” showed a completely different face and really turned up the heat. Benjamin Nissner (27th), Mario Huber (29th/PP), Troy Bourke (32nd) and Drake Rymsha (34th) shot Salzburg into the lead with four goals within seven minutes. In the final third, the South Tyroleans found their way back into the game, but they could no longer beat goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen.

In Klagenfurt, Manuel Ganahl gave the “Rotjackets” the lead in the first power play (3rd). In the middle of the final third, the outsider from South Tyrol also managed to equalize on the power play through Alex Petan (49th), but the Carinthians quickly countered. Matt Fraser (51st) and Thomas Vallant (54th) put the match puck on the record champions for Tuesday. The best team in the basic round can move into the final in Bruneck for the first time since the 2021 title.
