Hundreds of Spectators Descend onto Pitch in Wild Brawl Between Rival Football Team Fans

A wild brawl between two rival teams’ fans during a suburban football match saw hundreds of spectators descend onto the pitch.

The game, between the Oakleigh Cannons and Dandenong Thunder in east Melbourne on Friday night, had to be abandoned because of the melee, 9News reports.

Chaos spilt onto the pitch after Oakleigh scored a goal before halftime. It’s understood they were winning 2-0, which infuriated the rival team’s fans.

When police were called to the scene, some fans allegedly threw items at them.

Three people were injured.

In a statement, Football Victoria said it was investigating the incident and “condemns all forms of anti-social behaviour and violence”.

It’s asking fans to send footage from the brawl.

Police are investigating but have not had any formal complaints.

Oakleigh’s next match will be played behind closed doors.
