As of: March 9, 2024 3:57 p.m

With the win against Karlsruher SC, Holstein Kiel extends its lead to third place in the 2nd Bundesliga. Against the weakest defense in the league up to that point, a 1-0 (0-0) result was achieved thanks to Lewsi Holtby’s goal (57th).

Holstein Kiel has thus taken a big step towards promotion to the Bundesliga. Coach Marcel Rapp’s team increased their lead over the relegation place to five points.

A series of three games without defeat ended for the guests. The gap to third place is six points. “After the 0-1 we became more courageous and had one or two opportunities to win,” said KSC coach Christian Eichner. Then you shouldn’t have allowed yourself a quarter of an hour before, after and with the goal.

Quick start between Kiel and Karlsruhe

It was a brisk game from the start, the hosts recorded their first good finishes through Tom Rothe (3rd) and Alexander Bernhardsson (10th). But the KSC didn’t hide either after two recent 4-0 victories. Leon Jensen (23rd) missed the lead. Kiel became dangerous again before the break through Bernhardsson (34th). Kiel came out of the break with a lot of momentum. Timo Becker headed just wide from close range (47′).

The hosts kept the tempo high and deservedly took the lead thanks to a deflected shot from Holtby. The KSC then pushed vehemently for an equalizer, but ultimately without success.
