Historic success! The 15-year-old Pole made history in her debut. Way to go!

Liliana Lewińska is considered the great hope of Polish gymnastics. Last July in Cluj-Napoca, the 15-year-old became the junior world champion in rhythmic gymnastics, winning two gold medals in the finals of the club and ribbon routine. Currently, she is trained by her mother, Krystyna Leśkiewicz-Lewińska, who is a former gymnast and Olympian from Atlanta in 1996. Lewińska has been winning the Polish championships in her category since 2017. The 15-year-old dreams of participating in the Olympic Games in Paris.

– I would definitely like to go to the Olympic Games, the next one in Paris. The European Championships are in May and there is only one place – said Liliana Lewińska in the “Dzień Dobry TVN” studio. – My mother motivates me and sets high goals for me every day. I know that if she wasn’t my coach, I wouldn’t have won these medals and wouldn’t have had other successes, she added in an interview with the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Now Lewińska has made her debut in senior competition.

Lewińska took part in the World Cup competition in Athens. She immediately put her best foot forward, taking third place in the hoop routine with a score of 33,700 points. Only Elvira Krasnobayeva from Bulgaria (34,300 points) and Sofia Raffaeli from Italy (33,850 points) fared better. Lewińska is the first Pole to win a medal in the individual competition in the World Cup. It is worth adding that the minimum age to start is 16, but here the year of birth, not the month, is decisive. Lewińska will celebrate her 16th birthday in November.

Lewińska achieved a really good result in the All-Around World Cup. The score of 123,100 points consisted of the ball routine (31,350 points), the ribbon routine (28,200 points) and the clubs routine (30,350 points). This gave the Pole eleventh place, 1,900 points behind the podium. Only 0.300 points missed the final with Lewińska’s ball.

It is worth recalling that Lewińska left the European Junior Championships in Tel Aviv in 2022 with three medals: two silver (hoop routine and club routine) and one bronze (ribbon routine). These were Poland’s first medals in the Junior European Championships in rhythmic gymnastics since 1987.

According to the Polish Gymnastics Association, the next World Cup competitions with the participation of 15-year-old Lewińska will take place on April 10-15 in Bulgaria.
