Hertha BSC is losing one of its most promising talents, the youngest son of coach Pal Dardai. All family efforts had brought nothing. Particularly bitter: 18-year-old Bence is moving on a free transfer.

The Dardai family at second division soccer team Hertha BSC loses its youngest offspring. “Bence has informed us that he will be leaving the club,” said Hertha’s sporting director Benjamin Weber at the press conference before the home game against FC Schalke 04 on Sunday (1.30 p.m./Sky). The 18-year-old midfielder will play for VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga next season.

“Of course we are very disappointed. We tried to convince him of our path, but we have to accept the change,” Weber continued on Friday. According to coach Pal Dardai, Bence Dardai, who was free on a transfer, was presented with “a maximum offer”.

The decision was also “painful” for the coach and father. Both brothers tried to get him to stay, the mother cried,” he reported. Despite the confirmed change, coach Dardai will keep his son in the professional squad until the summer and work with him. The older Dardai sons Palko (24) and Marton (22) also play for the Berliners in the second division team.

Father Dardai says he hasn’t processed it yet

Despite Bence Dardai’s move, sports director Weber and coach Dardai see the chosen path of relying on talent from their own youth as the right one. “This year, over ten players from our own youth team played in the first team. You can see that the young people can make their mark. We have a lot of good young players with us. That will continue to be our path,” said Weber.
