Vanhaezebrouck to Schalke 04?
There they report that if Karel Geraerts were to move to Club Brugge, where he is in the picture, Hein Vanhaezebrouck would be mentioned at his club Schalke 04. That would be a very striking move for the AA Gent coach.
Vanhaezebrouck’s career has not been at its peak for a long time. He seemed to be on his way to a very good career when he made waves at AA Gent. He won the title and performed excellently in Europe with stunts in the Champions League and Europa League. Then there was interest from the Bundesliga, but the coach refused transfers abroad for the sake of his family.
Club in decline
Afterwards, things went less well at AA Gent and the collaboration stopped. He chose Anderlecht, but that passage was a big flop for all kinds of reasons. Vanhaezebrouck returned to AA Gent, where the cup win was a success. However, in the competition he always missed out on the Champions’ Play-Offs. He always placed Ghent for Europe via Play-Off 2, but they were never really able to surprise there. They were always solid campaigns.
The question remains whether Schalke 04 would be a good next step for the 60-year-old trainer. The club has been in decline for years and has a huge mountain of debt, meaning not much is possible.
