The duel at the top of the handball Bundesliga is coming to a head. Berlin is struggling to win against Balingen, Magdeburg cannot be shaken off. There is a clear winner in the northern derby.

The Füchse Berlin and SC Magdeburg continue to wage an exciting battle for the title in the handball Bundesliga. The capital club around world handball player Mathias Gidsel won against bottom of the table HBW Balingen-Weilstetten with 35:34 (18:16) and defended its lead in the table with a lot of effort. SC Magdeburg had at least a little easier time beating Bergischer HC 30:27 (17:12).

Although the Elbestadters remain in the chasing role, they have better chances of winning the championship. Coach Bennet Wiegert’s team only has 44:6 points compared to the Füchsen (45:7), but has one less game under their belt.

Flensburg clearly wins the derby against Kiel

And the Berliners’ performance didn’t exactly make their own fans optimistic about the first Bundesliga title in the club’s history. Even a temporary six-goal lead didn’t bring any security. The missed throw rate was higher than usual and the defense was shaky. Thanks to ten goals from Hans Lindberg, the Foxes saved the victory over time. “We shouldn’t make the game so exciting,” complained national player Nils Lichtlein.

SG Flensburg-Handewitt had already clearly won the 110th Schleswig-Holstein derby against THW Kiel on Saturday. The 33:26 (13:10) away win was the SG’s 40th success and also the highest in the Bundesliga in the Kiel Arena. With 39:11 points, Flensburg remains third in the table. The THW fell back to fifth place with 34:14 points and can probably write off a Champions League start in the coming season.
