Halep won her doping case and will return to the court immediately

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Simona Halep will be able to immediately return to the tennis circuit after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced the punishment the two-time Grand Slam champion received after testing positive for doping.

The three judges of the CAS (the court’s French acronym) accepted the Romanian’s appeal and shortened the suspension to just nine months. The punishment was applied retroactively, expiring in July of last year.

The panel of judges ruled that Halep “established, on the balance of probabilities” that her positive test for a doping substance that stimulates the production of red blood cells “entered her body through the consumption of a contaminated supplement.”

Halep has not played since the 2022 US Open, where she tested positive. She had been serving a suspension that would have kept her out of tennis until October 2026 after turning 35.
