Haarlem Residents Overwhelmingly Vote Against Parking Regulations: What Happens Next?

A large majority of Haarlem residents today voted against the ‘Note on the elaboration of parking regulations’. According to the provisional results, 81.25 percent checked ‘against’ in the voting booth, 18.42 percent ‘for’ and 0.3 percent voted blank. Of the 132,000 Haarlem residents who were allowed to vote, 49,834 actually did so, meaning the 30 percent turnout threshold was met.

Mayor Jos Wienen followed the provisional results with great interest. “This referendum has kept the city busy in recent weeks. The provisional result is known and the 30% threshold has been met. Haarlem has given her advice. It is up to the municipal council to make a decision about the final result of the referendum and what this means for the Memorandum on the Elaboration of Parking Regulations.”

The result will be definitively determined on March 13. The result of the referendum is an advice to the municipal council. The council decides what will happen next with the results. This will be discussed in the Management Committee on March 21. The city council will make a decision on this on March 28
