Borussia Dortmund has been confirmed as the second participant from the Bundesliga in the “new” Club World Cup in 2025. Due to the elimination of league rivals RB Leipzig in the round of 16 of the Champions League, BVB has secured its ticket. It was already clear that the German record champions Bayern Munich would be taking part in the bloated Club World Cup in the USA (June 15 to July 13, 2025).

Twelve teams from Europe take part in the tournament and are ranked based on their success in the Champions League. In this ranking, BVB is ahead of Leipzig. RB was eliminated on Wednesday after a 1-1 (0-0) draw at Real Madrid.
According to the regulations there can be two participants per country. The only possible exception: If three different teams from a league win the Champions League between 2021 and 2024, all three would qualify. This could affect England: FC Chelsea (Champions League winners 2020/21) and Manchester City (2022/23) are already certain to take part. If Arsenal FC wins the title this year, the Gunners would also qualify.
Even if the Club World Cup will not be played until 2025, qualification ends this season. The results of the 2024/25 season will then be included in the ranking for the 2029 tournament.
