German Tennis Talent Shines in International Tournaments with Multiple Semi-Finalists

Apart from the two top talents Noma Noha Akugue and Ella Seidel, the German tennis hopefuls were able to record some successes on Thursday – on Friday at least three men and one woman reached their semi-finals.

After two of the currently most promising German tennis talents, Noma Noha Akugue (number 185 in the world rankings) and Ella Seidel (number 152 in the world rankings), had to give up in the round of 16 at the Challenger tournament in Antalya on Thursday, Friday didn’t start either just promising.

At the W15 tournament in Monastir (Tunisia), Johanna Silva (number 899 in the world rankings) and Selina Dal (number 691 in the world rankings), the last two DTB representatives remaining in the field, had to pack their bags.

Silva, who caused a sensation the day before by defeating the top-seeded Bulgarian Isabella Shinikova (number 262 in the world rankings), clearly lost her quarter-final against the Russian Evialina Laskevich (number 692 in the world rankings) with 0:6 and 2:6, Dal surprisingly had to admit defeat to Kosovar Arlinda Rushiti (number 945 in the world rankings) 5:7 and 4:6.

At the W15 tournament in Antalya (Turkey), 17-year-old Carolin Raschdorf (number 1124 in the world rankings) failed in the quarterfinals to Kamilla Bartone from Latvia (number 744 in the world rankings) 4:6 and 5:7. Friday was just as disappointing for 21-year-old Chantal Sauvant (number 611 in the world rankings), who was number four in Antalya and lost 4:6, 6:3 and 2:6 to the Italian Beatrice Ricci (number 782 in the world rankings). drew the short straw.

In the semifinals, however, is 18-year-old Helena Buchwald (number 1213 in the world rankings), who only reached the main draw as a lucky loser, and in the quarterfinals the Russian Daria Egorova (currently not in the world rankings) with 6:1, 4:4 and 7 :5 downranked.

Squire celebrates victory after victory

Meanwhile, at the men’s M25 tournament in Trnava (Slovakia), Henri Squire (number 240 in the world rankings) reached the semi-finals. Squire, who recently won the Challenger tournament in Hamburg, prevailed 6:3 and 6:2 against Frenchman Robin Bertrand (number 449 in the world rankings).

Another German starter, 20-year-old Max Hans Rehberg (number 471 in the world rankings), fought his way into the semi-finals. Rehberg defeated the Belarusian Mikalai Haliak (number 372 in the world rankings) 7:6 and 7:6.

But that’s not all: Marko Topo (number 376 in the world rankings) also reached the semi-finals in Tarragona (Spain/M25). Topo defeated Czech Martin Krumich (number 385 in the world rankings).
