German ski jumpers are flying behind at the end of the season

The German ski jumpers led by Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger clearly missed the podium places in the last competition of the winter. Wellinger landed in 14th place on Sunday in Planica after attempts at 219.5 and 231 meters. His teammate Pius Paschke took 13th place. Karl Geiger only managed 22nd place despite a flight of 232 meters.

This marks the end of a sobering final weekend for the German Ski Association (DSV) team, where even the team didn’t get past sixth place on Saturday.

The day’s victory was secured by the in-form Austrian Daniel Huber, who shone with flights of 247 and 242.5 meters. “At the moment I’m still shaking a little inside,” said Huber after his first flight, which was only 6.5 meters away from the world record set by his compatriot Stefan Kraft. Overall World Cup winner Kraft came fourth on Sunday and lost the duel for the ski flying World Cup title against Huber.

Domen Prevc from Slovenia and the Pole Alexander Zniszczol completed the podium. Veteran Peter Prevc was celebrated in the run-off after the last competition of his successful career – sixth place became a minor matter. In contrast to Thursday and Saturday, this time the flying went without any falls.
