Judo, first gold for Georgia at the Tbilisi Grand Slam

Judo stars from around the world gathered in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, to participate in the long-awaited 2024 edition of the Grand Slam. The first day of the event saw large numbers of fans flocking to the Olympic Sport Palace to watch the races. In the minus 48kg, Korea’s Ikong defeated France’s Lora Spadin with a winning ippon to take the title. In the weight minus 60 kg, Kazakh Nurkan Serik Bayev beat Yam Bsak in the final with a sacrifice technique, obtaining the victory. In the minus 52kg, Ana Victoria Pul surpassed Arian Toro Soler during the Golden Score, taking home the gold medal. Ivan CERN surprised everyone by winning gold in the under 66kg category in his first appearance on the judo tour. But the most awaited moment by Georgian fans was when Eteri Liparteliani defeated Jessica Kim in the minus 57 kg, giving the local public great joy. The medals were presented by illustrious personalities, including the educational director of the AJF Mohamed Meriga and the Italian ambassador to Georgia Massimiliano D’Antuono. The day ended with great enthusiasm and there are still two days left until the end of the Grand Slam.
