Hall. Pst. The city of Halle (Saale) has successfully applied for funding to renovate the judo and wrestling hall at the SV Halle eV sports facility at Kreuzvorwerk. In a first step, the federal government placed the project outline submitted following the city council resolution of September 27, 2023 on the positive list and thereby endorsed the planned and urgently needed renovation.

The call for detailed project documents will now be sent to the city. The city is currently expecting costs of around 5.6 million euros. The funding from the federal government amounts to 75 percent, around 4.2 million euros. The funds come from the federal program “Renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture – call for projects 2023” of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction.

Mayor Egbert Geier: “I am pleased that our project was successful. Thanks to the funding, the city can sustainably and comprehensively renovate the martial arts center as a training and competition facility. Improving the training conditions for athletes in competitive and popular sports is very important to the city. The funding supports our goal of continually modernizing the city’s sports facilities and bringing them up to date in terms of energy efficiency. My thanks not only go to the city administration and the SV Halle for the very high quality and ultimately successful joint preparation of the application, but also to the Halle member of the Bundestag, Dr. Karamba Diaby, as well as Frank Junge, a native of Halle and a member of the Bundestag’s budget committee, who campaigned for the project in Berlin. Now it’s time to work with SV Halle to provide the necessary equity, submit the detailed project documents and implement the project.”

In the Kreuzvorwerk sports complex, the martial arts center is currently a training facility for wrestling, judo as well as children’s and health sports. The converted horse stable is considered unique and architecturally defining for the residential area. In addition to the wrestling and judo hall, there is also a weight room as well as trainer, meeting and sanitary rooms available.

With the help of the planned renovation, the electricity and heat requirements can be reduced by more than 50 percent per square meter of net area and the attic can be modernized and converted into additional, urgently needed sports areas. The complex was built at the beginning of the 20th century, converted into a sports facility in the 1960s and partially renovated in the early 2000s. The current structural condition requires fundamental energy and fire protection renovation.
