Francesca D’Orazio Wins Silver at Australian Judo Championships: A Success Story from Pro Patria Judo

Sunday 24 March, Francesca D’Orazio (25 years old, originally from Busto, but currently residing in Australia, and second dan black belt) won silver at the Australian Western Union Openi.e. the regional competition of the Western section of Australia: the qualifying phase for the Australian national Judo championships.

Francesca, graduated in Economics and Business and in Green Economic Development, competed in the weight category Under 57Kg femalenell’UWA Judo Club of Perth: defeated and earned the Ippon both the Australian judoka Olivia Knights (from Southwest Judo Academy) in a minute and a half with the arm throw technique (detta in giapponese Tai Otoshi)that the other Australian judoka Oren Kelly through the Tani Otoshi technique, which can be literally translated as “fell into the valley”. D’Orazio then lost in extra time against the Brazilian champion Ana Flavia Ajuz Ferreira (dell’ Australian Institute of Judo) suffering a counterattack considered a Golden Score.

A beautiful result that has its roots in the youth work carried out by Pro Patria Judoand it is precisely the president and Maestro Claudio Zanescowho followed the competition via streaming at 6.00 in the morning, spoke to us about his former student and expressed his opinion on the result achieved: “Francesca has been my student since she was a child, and her brothers also practice Judo; she now works in Australia and is further studying the English language. At the Open, which required good skills, I noticed that she was in great shape overall and she had excellent races, and there is a hint of regret that she lost due to the Golden Score (similar to the golden goal in football, ed.), which awarded the victory immediately after extra time. However, this is a very interesting result, which demonstrates how one of our judokas, sportingly mature, is able to reach new goals even in a reality that is very distant from us. In general, we teach Judo the moral values, the playful essence, the fighting principles, the philosophy and the in-depth analysis of the techniques with the aim of arousing sporting passion in athletes, and also training them on a human and social level. Francesca is carrying all this forward on the opposite side of the world, and it would be wonderful if she reached the Superfinal in Australia“.
