He’s currently rehabbing a torn ACL. The Giants have already had Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy and North Carolina’s Drake Maye in for visits. Schoen was at Caleb Williams’ pro day last week at USC along with director of player personnel Tim McDonnell. Meanwhile, assistant general manager Brandon Brown and quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney were at McCarthy’s pro day in Ann Arbor.
He replied, “I don’t think that’s accurate. No one is forcefully closing the door. Everyone is willing to listen, I believe.”

Mara mentioned that the team is scouting potential quarterbacks. He acknowledged that the team has attended pro days and brought in some of the QB prospects for evaluation. However, they have not yet made a final decision on which direction they will take. These discussions will take place in the coming weeks.
The Giants presently possess the sixth selection in a particularly promising draft for quarterbacks.
Mara is adamant that it will not factor into their decision.

That’s presumably Williams, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, Maye and McCarthy. That would leave the Chargers at No. 5 and the Giants at No. 6 in enviable shape.
“The general manager and head coach are responsible for constructing the roster. This has been our approach for several years,” he stated. “I trust their judgments when it comes to players and won’t interfere unless it pertains to off-field behavior. In those rare instances, I will intervene and voice my concerns.”
“I would certainly be in favor of drafting a quarterback with the 6th pick or trading up for one if our team falls in love with them,” stated owner John Mara on Monday during the NFL owners meetings.
Regardless of the outcome, it is expected that Jones will start in Week 1 for the Giants, as long as he is in good health. Schoen confirmed on Monday that Jones has started running on land and has not encountered any setbacks.
Although the Giants may select a quarterback in this year’s draft, Mara does not see it as a sign of giving up on Jones.
When assessing players, if they are certain about one and wish to select or obtain one through free agency, my priority is for both of them to have mutual understanding.
Currently, it is widely believed that the first three picks, held by the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots, will be used to draft quarterbacks. However, Schoen did not adhere to the notion that these picks were not available for trading.
“I do not believe that is necessary,” Mara stated. “Why not allow them both to compete and may the superior man prevail.”
The Giants’ willingness to consider this move speaks to the ownership’s attitudes. They invested million with guaranteed money and would face a million loss if they released Jones after the current season.
