Is a return to BVB on the horizon?

Hans-Joachim Watzke will leave Borussia Dortmund in 2025. Because sports director Sebastian Kehl could inherit the 64-year-old, BVB is looking for a new sports director. Now a former chief scout could return.

It was only at the beginning of March that Borussia Dortmund announced that managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke would be leaving the club in 2025. Because sports director Sebastian Kehl could inherit the 64-year-old, the black and yellow are looking for a Kehl successor.

Sky and Bild are now bringing Sven Mislintat into play as their successor. The 51-year-old could therefore imagine returning to BVB. The club from the Ruhr region is now said to have confirmed that there were concrete discussions between Mislintat and the club.

The 51-year-old, also known as the “Diamond Eye” since 2019 because of his ability to discover young talent at an early stage, was already active as Dortmund’s chief scout and guided, among others, Jadon Sancho and Shinji Kagawa to the eight-time German champions.

However, in 2017 he left the club for Arsenal FC before working as sports director at VfB Stuttgart and most recently as technical director at Ajax Amsterdam.

In addition to Mislintat, there are other possible candidates for the position of sports director. Frankfurt boss Markus Krösche is also said to be a hot candidate for the position.
