Former Barcelona Player Mikel Arteta Touted as Potential Managerial Successor by Gerard Pique

Arteta is a former Barcelona pillar and is believed to really understand this club inside and out.

Barcelona legend Gerard Pique is fully encouraging his former club to bring in Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is increasingly showing his capabilities as a top coach in the English Premier League.

Arteta himself is none other than a former Barca player and Pique is sure that the coach really understands this club inside and out.

Pique urged Barca management to seriously consider recruiting Arteta when Xavi leaves the club at the end of next season.

“To coach Barca you need to be a specific type of coach and understand how Barca play, so the options are much fewer,” Pique told Sunday Times.

“The most obvious is Guardiola, because he has a past here and he is the best coach at the moment, and Arteta,” continued Pique.

“Yes [Arteta] will also be a great figure. He understands Barcelona and played for Barca in the past,” Pique supported Arteta’s appointment.

As for whether Guardiola is interested in returning to Barca, Pique added: “You have to ask him.”

“I still talk to him sometimes. I’m sure he and the people at Barcelona will be happy to see him back,” concluded Pique.
