Things only get better in the second half. And then the goals fall. Bundesliga professionals also played their part in the Oranje’s clear win against Scotland.
When Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong made his starting eleven debut, the Dutch national soccer team initially had a difficult time against Germany’s opening European Championship opponents Scotland. In the end, Bonds coach Ronald Koeman’s team got in the mood for the neighborhood duel with the DFB selection next Tuesday in Frankfurt/Main with a clear 4-0 (1-0).
After Tijjani Reijnders’ remarkable goal in the 40th minute, Georginio Wijnaldum made it 2-0 in the second half (72nd). Frimpong, who played for just under half an hour in the 2-1 defeat against runners-up France in October last year, had been substituted ten minutes earlier.
Leipzig’s Xavi Simons had to give way to Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen in the 77th minute. At that point, Hoffenheim’s Wout Weghorst came on as a substitute, and a little later he scored the hosts’ next goal before Malen was also there (86′). The Scots are the first opponents for the German Football Association’s selection at the European Championship finals this summer.
Meanwhile, Germany’s other European Championship group opponent Hungary managed a home win against Turkey. The team around RB Leipzig keeper Peter Gulacsi won 1-0 (0-0). Former RB professional Dominik Szoboszlai scored the goal from a penalty three minutes after the start of the second half. In addition to Scotland and Hungary, the German national team will also face Switzerland at the European Championships in their own country from June 14th to July 14th.
