An exercise where you develop maximum strength and lift the heaviest weight? Here it is, our trainer’s favorite strength exercise to try out.

In the series “Our personal trainer” help us the Berlin fitness coach Sebastian Grüner to become stronger, healthier and more beautiful. After summarizing some of the most important exercises over the past few weeks, we have now sent Grüner into the studio again. This article is part of TIME on the weekendissue 10/2024.

Many weeks ago we showed you how to deadlift with a kettlebell. That was quite a highlight. But this is our trainer’s ultimate favorite exercise. With the barbell you can lift even higher weights and therefore train even more intensively. Fun fact: “It is the exercise in which people can develop the most strength,” says Grüner. The world record is more than 500 kilograms.
