Fiorentina manager in critical condition after surgery

The ACF Fiorentina manager continues to receive intensive medical treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest shortly before Sunday’s Serie A visit to Atalanta Bergamo. As the club announced on Monday, general director Joe Barone underwent surgery in a Milan clinic.

The 57-year-old is in critical condition. A medical prognosis is not serious at this point. At the same time, the club confirmed that Barone had suffered a cardiac arrest. After the incident, Fiorentina’s game at Atalanta was canceled.

According to Italian media reports, the club’s players and coaches, as well as Barone’s wife, rushed to the San Raffaele hospital in northeast Milan, less than an hour’s drive from Bergamo. It was uncertain when the game between the two teams fighting for a place in the European Cup would be rescheduled.
