Figure Skating World Cup: Starostin also disappointed and missed the free skating final

As of: March 21, 2024 10:56 p.m

Second individual, second disappointment: Nikita Starostin clearly missed qualifying for the free skating final at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal. After a hesitant performance, the Dortmund player was far behind the competition.

After Kristina Isaev, the World Championships were over for Nikita Starostin after the short program. The 21-year-old fell during the triple Axel and therefore had no chance of asserting himself among the top 24 runners. They will decide on the new world champion in the free skate on Saturday (11 p.m., summary the next day on sportschau.de).

In the last two title fights, Starostin made it into the free skate and ended up in 22nd and 19th place. But this year the St. Petersburg native appeared unsettled and reserved. As the score was awarded, he buried his face in his hands and fought back tears. In the end, 32nd place was in the books for Starostin.

German hopes rest on Hase/Volodin

The German couple Minerva-Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin have a good chance of winning a medal. They are in fourth place after the short program. The freestyle competition takes place on the night of Thursday to Friday. The sports show will show a detailed summary of the decision on Friday from 3:30 p.m.
