Fiery March Finale: Italian Judo Team Prepares for Two Consecutive Grand Slams

It promises to be a fiery March finale for the Judo World Tourwho is preparing to live two consecutive Grand Slams in the last two weekends of the month with many increasingly decisive points up for grabs in terms of Olympic qualification ranking towards Paris 2024. The first of the two events is scheduled in Tbilisi from 22 to 24 March.

At the moment, around 550 athletes from 82 countries are expected in the Georgian capital, including an Italian representative of 9 elements. To date in fact, 2 men and 7 women for the Italian national team appear on the tournament’s entry listwith the aim of achieving a positive result and gathering encouraging feedback in view of the next major events with medals up for grabs: the European Championships in Zagreb (25-28 April) and the World Championships in Abu Dhabi (19-24 May).

Several Italians currently in the balance for qualifying for five circles have signed up Andrea Carlino (60 kg), Matteo Piras (66 kg), Flavia Favorini (63 kg), Irene Pedrotti (70 kg) and the returning Martina Esposito (70 kg). The tricolor expedition will be completed provisionally by Francesca Milani in the 48 kg, the eighteen year old Savita Russo nei 63 kg, Asya Tavano and Erica Simonetti at heavyweight.
